Gas Station and Automotive Repair Insurance

Automotive Gasoline Service Station and Convenience Stores

A Retail Service Station has full-service and/or self-service gasoline sales along with Convenience Store/Mini Market operations (snacks, beverages, etc.), cooking, car wash, and repair operations. A typical Service Station will be leased from a major oil company such as Shell/Texaco, Exxon/Mobil, ARCO, or Chevron and the insured is not responsible for providing building coverage. This is the preferred risk, since the oil company handles all building maintenance and upkeep promptly. The insured may also own the property rather than leasing from an oil company. The owner must have a minimum of two years experience service station/convenience store industry or related specialized training.

Car Washes

Car washes are eligible if they are associated with a retail gas station and are located on the same premise. Car washes can be of the Full Service manner or the Self Service manner. The difference between Full Service and Self Service is the fact that you get out of your car in a Full Service Car Wash and you remain in your car for a Self Service car wash. There is a third type of car wash that is known as a Wand Car Wash. A wand car wash is a type of self-service car wash where you get out the car, insert money (usually quarters) into the machine and you wash the car with a power washer. The wand car washes are the least desirable and are ineligible for the our Service Station Program.

Eligible Exposures:

  • Self-Service Drive Through as long as the car wash is on the same premise as the Service Station.
  • Full-Service Car Wash as long as the receipts for the gasoline exceed 50% of the total sales

Ineligible Exposures:

  • Wand Car Washes
